More fun with the South Dakota crew!

As we mentioned in our previous blog post, the last week of May, Grandma Debbie, Grandpa Rod, Aunt Jenny and Cory (Noah’s cousin) flew out from South Dakota to visit us and see the sights. If you missed our previous post about our quick trip to New York City while they were here, you can read it here. We had many fun adventures around the DC area too!

On their first full day here, we met our relatives Tom and Robin at Adventure Park in Sandy Spring, MD. Ryan, Cory, Aunt Jenny, Grandpa Rod, Tom and Robin all went on the zip lines and traversed the ropes courses – yep, they’re fearless! The rest of us watched from below…safe on the ground. Ha.

Here’s a fun video too. As a quick reminder: If you’re reading this post in an email, you may need to open the blog webpage in order to view the video. To do so, just click on the title of the post (the link in blue) at the top of the email to open the blog in your web browser.

The Fishies and Froggies preschool classes had a field trip to the Natural History Museum that week, and Grandma Debbie tagged along as a chaperone. She got to ride the school bus with Noah too – so fun! Ryan and Grandpa Rod met the group at the museum too. The kids got to listen to a special presentation about tarantulas. I don’t think Grandma thought the taratula was as cool as Noah did. Ha.

IMG_1638

The kids had a great time exploring the rest of the museum too!

IMG_1652-1

After the field trip, they said goodbye to the preschool classes and met up with Cory and Aunt Jenny…and then they all headed to Old Town Alexandria for lunch. They ate lunch at one of our favorite restaurants – Chadwicks! Noah loves their grilled cheese sandwiches!

IMG_2565

After lunch Noah, Cory, Grandma Debbie and Aunt Jenny took the water tax from Old Town Alexandria across the Potomac River to National Harbor.

IMG_1674

IMG_1679

Ryan and Grandpa Rod drove to National Harbor and watched as the water taxi docked at the harbor.

IMG_1693

Then they headed to the main attraction: the Capital Wheel! If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, you know that Noah loves the Capital Wheel, and he was especially excited to ride with all the boys.

Noah went to preschool the other weekdays, and the South Dakota crew explored all the sights. So what did they see? They visited the White House, the Capitol, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, Ford’s Theatre, the National Archives, the Air & Space Museum, the Museum of American History, Mount Vernon and much more. Whew, they were busy! Here are just a few photos from their sightseeing extravaganza. Check it out!

An especially exciting outing: On Memorial Day, Cory, Aunt Jenny and Grandpa Rod went to the special service at Arlington National Cemetery, and they got to hear President Obama speak. It’s not every day that you can get that close to the President…and what an important occasion too!

This was Noah’s third trip to the National Zoo. We come across new animals each time we visit. I wonder what animals we’ll see next time. Stay tuned!

Preschool Graduation!

Earlier this month Noah had his preschool graduation ceremony. Can you believe that?!?! Kindergarten is just around the corner!

2016 April16 Graduate1

2016 April16 Graduate2

The ceremony was held at one of Alexandria’s rec centers. Here’s a short video of Noah walking onto the stage. Can you spot him? Hint: He loves to run!

As a quick reminder: If you’re reading this post in an email, you may need to open the blog webpage in order to view the video. To do so, just click on the title of the post (the link in blue) at the top of the email to open the blog in your web browser.

The teachers planned a really cute ceremony full of songs, poems and fun stories. Here is a short video of the Fishies and Froggies singing “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. Catchy tune, huh?

And here’s a short video of the kids singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.

Here are a few pictures of the ceremony too. Our photos and videos didn’t turn out that well quality wise, but they’re still really fun. Check it out!

Since we didn’t get any good pictures of the entire class at graduation, I wanted to share his recent class photo from picture day. Yeah, they’re a fun bunch of kids! And since the preschool is in the same neighborhood as the elementary school, quite of few of Noah’s buddies will be with him in kindergarten – so exciting!

2016 April16 Class Photo

The coolest thing about graduation was that we got to share it with Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Don. Yep, they drove over from Ohio for the big occasion!

Stay tuned to read more about weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. We had a great time! And of course, stay tuned to read about Noah’s upcoming adventures in kindergarten!

Noah’s 5th birthday

Earlier this month we celebrated Noah’s 5th birthday. Can you believe it?!?! He’s growing up fast!

Noah brought chocolate-covered donuts (with sprinkles!) to share with the Fishies and Froggies preschool classes.

IMG_2232

IMG_2230

Noah’s birthday was low key this year, but he definitely still had a great time. We’ll have a few more mini birthday parties over the next couple of weeks too with family visiting from South Dakota and Ohio. Why not celebrate for the entire month, right? You only turn 5 once!

Another Eggcellent Easter

Noah had another fun-filled Easter this year. The Friday before Easter, Noah’s preschool had a huge Easter egg hunt in the park across the street from the school. While the Fishies and Froggies waited for their turn, they entertained the crowd by singing the alphabet. Check out this short video!

(As a quick reminder: If you’re reading this post in an email, you may need to open the blog webpage in order to view the video. To do so, just click on the title of the post (the link in blue) at the top of the email to open the blog in your web browser.)

Now on to the most important part: the egg hunt! Ready…set…go!!!

So many eggs!

And here are two short videos of the “Eggstravaganza” too. Yeah, these little egg hunters were fast! Go, Noah, go!

Noah’s loot included candy (of course!), miniature dinosaurs, stickers and fun-colored Band-Aids. Can’t beat that!

We spent Easter Sunday with our good friends Matt and Carolyn and their family. We had an amazing Easter feast: homemade pizza, lamb sausages, salad with roasted cauliflower, hummus, and roasted eggplant. It was so good! We were stuffed!

After lunch Noah and Jerome had an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. Jerome’s Uncle Chris did a great job hiding the eggs, but the boys found them all! Their buckets were full! The eggs had dinosaur stickers and candy – score! They also got a few “real” dinosaur eggs that hatch in watch. Stay tuned for more on that!

After the egg hunt, we headed back inside for dessert. It was Matt’s birthday, so we celebrated with chocolate cake. Here’s a short video of Noah and Jerome chanting: “We want cake! We want cake!”

And here is a photo too. Thanks for giving us a good reason to binge on yummy cake, Matt!

Noah and Jerome snuck in some train time between all the festivities too. They were definitely busy boys that day.

This was our second Easter with Matt, Carolyn and Jerome (and now Baby Sophie too!). We had a great time!

The Easter fun didn’t end there. Noah got lots of Easter goodies at home too. The Easter Bunny brought him a Lego police car and truck set, a few Hot Wheels cars, and some more candy – very cool! He also got candy and stickers from Grandma Cindy and Grandma Debbie. Yeah, he definitely hit the Easter jackpot! And don’t worry, we didn’t eat all the candy in one sitting. Ha.

We had a very fun Easter season, and we hope you did too!

Happy Halloween!

Noah had an AWESOME Halloween. This year he dressed up as Buddy the Tyrannosaurus Rex from the PBS Kids show “Dinosaur Train.” Yeah, this dinosaur is definitely more cute than scary…

On Friday Noah’s preschool had a Halloween parade. His classmates’ costumes included superheroes, construction workers, princesses, witches, dinosaurs, Darth Vader and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Check it out!

IMG_0088

IMG_0164Noah and his buddy Carter (the other dinosaur) paired up for the parade. DOUBLE ROAR!

IMG_0051

The kids trick-or-treated through the business area around the preschool and collected candy from the storeowners and people from the neighborhood. The parade was a great way to kick off the Halloween weekend!

Yes, Noah and Jerome hit the jack-o-lantern-pot! We’ll be nibbling on his huge stash of candy for days to come.

IMG_0142

To wrap things up, here’s a flashback at Noah’s previous Halloween costumes. He’s been a dragon (twice!), a monkey and a tiger. We’re excited to see what he’ll want to be next year!

Fall field trip to Burke Nursery

Last week Noah went on his fifth preschool field trip – these kids are busy! This time the Fishies and Froggies classes went to Burke Nursery & Garden Centre about 20 miles west of Alexandria. Ryan tagged along too as a chaperone.

The kids had a blast at the “pumpkin playground.” Noah and his buddy Damian went for a few spins on the merry-go-round, and they took turns driving the sports car, three wheeler and fire truck – so much to do!

This was Noah’s last field trip to Burke Nursery with his preschool. Yep, kindergarten is just around the corner! We’ll have to plan a family trip there next fall instead.

Stay tuned to read more about all of Noah’s fun fall festivities. Burke Nursery is actually the second pumpkin patch that Noah has been to this month. Yes, we have quite the collection of pumpkins on our front step!

And of course, we can’t forget to mention the awesome ride on the school bus—the kids loved it!

This was Noah’s second trip to the National Zoo. Noah’s first zoo adventure was for his second birthday. We still haven’t seen all the animals and exhibits—there are a lot more critters to see—so we definitely plan to visit again soon. Stay tuned!
